Burberry was founded by Thomas Burberry in 1856. He went on to invent a fabric called gabardine, which was then patented by the company. It was known for being weatherproof, breathable and sturdy for wear. The tielocken, a predecessor of the modern trench coat, was also patented by the brand in 1912. The brand has designed outerwear for Olympians and soldiers in WWII. By 2012, they had a range of apparel, fragrances and beauty products.
