Vetiver is a tall, perennial grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides) cultivated across India, Haiti, Java, and Reunion for its dense, deeply penetrating root system. The washed and dried roots are steam-distilled to yield an oil that ranks among perfumery's most treasured natural materials, each origin lending its own character.

Its aroma is rich and complex: earthy and woody at the core, laced with smoke, damp soil, and bitter-green nuances, sometimes with a cool, mineral sharpness. Some grades feel rooty and rugged, others smoother, nutty, and lightly sweet, unfolding slowly and tenaciously on skin.

In composition, vetiver is a cornerstone of the base, prized for the structure, depth, and refined dry-down it provides. It grounds fresh citrus colognes, fougeres, smoky leathers, and chypres, harmonizing with bergamot and grapefruit overhead and with cedar, sandalwood, and patchouli beneath.

About Vetiver Fragrances

Distilled from the sprawling root system of the Vetiveria zizanioides grass, primarily grown in Haiti, India, and Indonesia, vetiver oil is complex, earthy, and endlessly faceted.
